PARLIAMENT OF MALAYSIA, 7 Dec 2015 - Rantau Panjang UMNO division chief, Datuk Abdullah Mat Yasim sworn in as Senator for the first time in the Senate today.

The swearing-in ceremony took place before the President of the Senate, H.E. Senator Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang.

Datuk Abdullah, 60, from Pasir Mas, Kelantan, is appointed as a Senator for a period of three years.

He is also a former Administrative and Diplomatic Officer (PTD) of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Home Affairs and also the member of the board of Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA).

Congratulating on the appointment, the President of the Senate, Senator Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang reminded the Senators to not make the Senate as a platform to express emotions and anger.

"I also want to draw your attention that the language used in the Senate shall be Bahasa Melayu. It has long been accepted in our constitution. If the member wants to speak in English for certain words, the Speaker has to permit the use of it first.

"Do not let the language be in question," he said, adding that the quality of debate should be in accordance with the standards and always show respect to other members.

Third Meeting of the Third Session of the Thirteenth Parliament will begin today and is expected to end on 22 December 2015.
