THE APPOINTMENT OF THE DEPUTY PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE

PARLIAMENT OF MALAYSIA, 18 April – Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Abd. Samad was today appointed as the Deputy President of The Senate of the 13th Parliament.

He took his oath before the President of the Senate, Senator Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang.
 
Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Halim, 76, who was the former Setiawangsa UMNO Division from 2004 to 2013 was appointed as senator on 3 November 2014.  

He was born in Kuantan, Pahang, and received his education at Kota Bharu Teachers College, Kelantan, before servicing as an Education Officer for 20 years in the Education Ministry since 1961.

He had held various positions from 1986 to 1995. Among them was as a Personal Secretary to the Deputy Minister of Education and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department, Senior Private Secretary to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Private Secretary to the Minister of Defence and Minister of Education.
 
Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Halim was appointed to replace Senator Dato’ Doris Sophia Brodie who was the first Dayak woman to be appointed as the Deputy President of the Senate on 26 February 2012.

The term of service of Senator Dato’ Doris Sophia as a senator for two terms ended on 12 March 2016.
