Friday, 15 August 2014 – ‘Di sini lahirnya sebuah CHERITA’, was the motto for Parliament of Malaysia 2014 Hari Raya Celebration. This year’s celebration was a little bit special as for the first time ever, Parliament’s staff had the opportunity to work together to cook dodol, lemang and rendang rusa. Each division was given an opportunity to prepare delicacies with 1Malaysia concept like ketupat palas, rendang, nasi dagang, rojak buah, pasembur, char kuew tiaw, cendol and so on. The event that started at 11am was held by Parliament of Malaysia in collaboration with the Welfare and Sports Club of Parliament of Malaysia (KKSPM).

Among the honoured guests who attended the celebration were H.E. Senator Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang, President of the Senate and wife, Dato’ Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato’ Haji Ismail Mohamed Said, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Committee Members of The Malaysian Senators’ Council, Datuk Lamien Sawiyo, Chief Administrator of Parliament and wife, Datuk Roosme Hamzah, Secretary of the House of  Representatives and Datuk Zamani Sulaiman, Secretary of the Senate.

The Chief Administrator of Parliament delivered a welcoming speech to all guests and followed by a speech by H.E. Senator Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang.

As the saying goes, the hand that gives is better than the hand that receives. During the celebration, Parliament of Malaysia Gaza Fund has been launched to help the people of Gaza who are currently the victims of Israel brutality. The launch was officiated by the President of the Senate together with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The celebration was also accompanied by 1Parliament Band performance. Even though it was a simple celebration but it was still full of merriment. The celebration ended at about 1.30pm.
