KUALA LUMPUR, 22 April – The Honourable Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak launched the book written by H.E. Senator Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abu Zahar Ujang “Yang di-Pertua Dewan Negara Ke-16” tonight, depicting his six years experience as the President of the Senate.
The Honourable Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak and his wife Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor were photographed at the farewell ceremony to mark the end of the service of H.E. Senator Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abu Zahar Ujang and launching of the book “Yang di-Pertua Dewan Negara Ke-16”.
The Prime Minister also recorded his appreciation to Abu Zahar who has done an excellent job as the President of The Senate in helping to smoothen the process of democracy in the country.
The Prime Minister said that as President, Abu Zahar had managed the Senate well, that the Senators could share their ideas and views even though differed in opinions. He had successfully performed as the President of The Senate for two terms since 26 April 2010, so much so that The Senate is not perceived as a mere 'rubber stamp'.
The Prime Minister officiated the launching ceremony of the book “Yang di-Pertua Dewan Negara Ke-16”.
"His personality and firmness as the President of The Senate, although sometimes seem stern but always fair and balance in decision-making.
"This is important because as the President, it is not only crucial to get the trust of the government but also from the opposition, so that the institution and the role of the Senate and the House of Representatives are seen as credible national legislature that truly represent the people," he said at the farewell ceremony to mark the end of service of H.E. Senator Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abu Zahar Ujang and launching of the book “Yang di-Pertua Dewan Negara Ke-16” here tonight.

Also present were the Speaker of the House of Representatives H.E. Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Pandikar Amin Mulia, several cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, members of parliament and senators.
Abu Zahar, 72, will end his tenure as the President of the Senate on 25 April.
