FIRE SAFETY AND EVACUATION EXERCISE AT THE BUILDING OF PARLIAMENT OF MALAYSIA

Wednesday, 1 October 2014 – The employees’ health, safety and environmental issues are the most important matters for an organization in both private and government sector. Recognizing the importance of these issues, the Fire Safety Committee of Parliament of Malaysia took the responsibility to conduct a Fire Safety and Evacuation Exercise on 30 September 2014 and it was the first to be held since the last one held 5 years ago.
 

The staff used the emergency route during the evacuation of the Parliament Building.
 
The objective of this exercise was to give exposure and training to the staff of the Parliament of Malaysia about the necessary action to be taken in the event of an emergency or disaster. It is important to ensure that the staff would always be vigilant and alerted of any emergency warning besides being aware of the immediate actions and emergency routes to be taken during the occurrence of a fire. The fire drill also aimed to ensure that the Fire Safety Team and the Floor Captains/Assistant Captains could act quickly to carry out their responsibilities as a team in helping the staff to evacuate the building.
 

The staff gathered at the Parking Area Zone A
 
The fire drill started at 9.45 a.m. after a fire alarm sounded and the evacuation of the Parliament building was completed within 15 minutes. All officers and staff were required to assemble at the Parking Area Zone A. Also present were Mr. Awang Alik Jeman, the Deputy Chief Administrator of Parliament of Malaysia and Mr. Riduan Rahmat, the Secretary of the Senate. Besides that, a simple briefing on safety measures in the event of a fire were given by Mr. Zahari bin Mohamed, the Head of a Fire Station under the Fire and Rescue Department of Sentul District and his officers.
 

Mr. Awang Alik Jeman, the Deputy Chief Administrator of Parliament of Malaysia was speaking to the staff.
 
The fire safety and evacuation exercise ended around 10.15 a.m.
