PARLIAMENT OF MALAYSIA, 2 April 2015 – A courtesy call by the Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, Dr Makio Miyagawa to the President of the Senate, His Excellency Senator Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang was held at the Parliament Building, today.

The courtesy call was to express a sense of appreciation and gratitude of the Emperor of Japan, Akihito to Abu Zahar for conveying wishes on his birthday on December 23 last year.

Speaking to reporters, Miyagawa said several matters were also discussed at the meeting including the bilateral socio-economic relations between Malaysia and Japan.

"Japan and Malaysia have enjoyed a very long cordial relationship. As Japan’s economy started to revive since the new Prime Minister took over two years ago, investments to Malaysia have been increasing and we are now a major investor," he said.

Miyagawa also expressed confidence on Malaysia’s role as ASEAN chairman this year and willing to assist Malaysia as soon as possible in the organising and the establishment of the ASEAN community.

The courtesy call ended at 11am.
