GOODS AND SERVICES TAX BILL 2014 PASSED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Tuesday, 8 April 2014 – The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill 2014 was passed in the House of Representatives on 7 April 2014. The GST Bill 2014 was tabled for its first reading by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon. Datuk Haji Ahmad Maslan on 31 March.

The debate on the bill started since 3 April 2014 and was passed after two bloc division voting with 118 votes supporting the bill and 81 votes against it in the first bloc division voting. In the second bloc division voting, 119 votes were in favour of the law against 81 that were against it. Both the ruling party and opposition participated actively in the debate by giving their varied opinions before the bill was passed. Through the implementation of GST, it is hoped that it would benefit the people and the economy of the country.
