Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) chairman Admiral (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor was sworn in as Senator of Dewan Negara here, Thursday. Mohd Anwar, 65, who was the former armed forces chief, was appointed as Senator for the first time for a three-year term.

The swearing in ceremony was done before the President of Senate, H.E. Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang. Abu Zahar congratulated Mohd Anwar for the appointment which was a pride as well as honouring the whole armed forces.

"I hope the attitude and character as well as good demeanour, civilised and courteous will be maintained and will set a good example for other Senate members," he said.

Abu Zahar hopes the Senate members understand all the procedures as stipulated in the Federal Constitution and the meeting regulations.

"I am wary of certain Senate members who do not respect parliament, the meeting regulations and the Federal Constitution," he said.

When met in parliament lobby, Mohd Anwar said his appointment was an honour and the highest appreciation to the armed forces veterans fought and died defending the country from communist threats during the emergency era.

"I will continue to strengthen and transform PVATM as well as to improve the Armed Forces Veteran Welfares, which has 370,000 members," he said.

He would focus on asking for a raise in the allowance of armed forces veterans, housing under the Blue Ocean Strategies (NBOS) and the welfare of disabled armed forces personnel.

The Meeting of the Senate today will not be adjourned until it has been decided and approved the Technologists And Technicians Bill 2014.
