Parliament of Malaysia, 14 July 2014 – Kelantan PAS Deputy Commissioner II, Dato’ Dr. Johari Mat has subscribed the oath as a Senator for the second term in the Senate. Hon. Senator Dato’ Dr. Johari Mat, 62, also a member of PAS Syura Ulama Council has taken the oath before the President of the Senate, H.E Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang to serve for another three years.

Dato’ Dr. Johari Mat, 62, was first appointed as a Senator on 7 July 2011.

He was first appointed to be a Member of the Senate on 7 July 2011 representing Kelantan. He has a Doctorate in Usuluddin from University of Iman Mohd Ibn Saud Al-Islamiyyah, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (1982-1990), majoring in akidah and school of thoughts.

Commenting on his appointment, Hon. Senator Dato’ Dr. Johari Mat said that he is thankful and humbled for being given the chance by Kelantan State Assembly and pledge to give his full commitment to contribute to the society and religion in the effort to make Malaysia a model for other Muslim countries.

Hon. Senator Dato’ Dr. Johari was a former Chief Executive of Sultan Ismail Petra International Islamic Colege (KIAS) for 9 years from May 2003 to May 2012. He was also an Associate Professor at the Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, Kelantan (2001-2003). Hon. Senator Dato’ Dr. Johari has contributed to the academic research by conducting studies on deviant teachings in the southern states – Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor (1998) and the northern states – Perlis, Kedah and Pulau Pinang (1999).
