While welcoming the appointment of Hon. Senator Azizah, H.E. Tan Sri Abu Zahar drew attention to the fact that all members of Parliament consisting of both House of Representatives and The Senate must be loyal to Malaysia, as well as defend and protect the Constitution of the country.

He said that as Members of Parliament, they should understand and appreciate  Parliamentary democracy and Constitutional Monarchy practiced in Malaysia since its independence.

"The decision of running the country democratically through general elections every five years, must be respected by all the people, especially Members of Parliament themselves, there should never be an attempt to sabotage or bring down a Government without going through the democratic process, in order to safeguard the harmony and prosperity of all citizens," he said.

Expressing his concern on the present situation, the President of the Senate said all parties should think rationally, and never do things that go against the Constitution and democratic system.

Earlier, while congratulating the appointment of Hon. Senator Azizah, he hoped that all Senators, particularly those who were elected for the first time, would perform their duties wisely, while providing beneficial contributions to the people and the country.

"Honourable members, especially those who are newly appointed, are advised not to waste time, and show their ability as soon as they are sworn in. This is not a place to play around or perform theatrics, as this is the August House that enacts laws of the country," he said.
