Monday, 8 June 2015 - "EMPOWERING THE PEOPLES FOR A DRUG-FREE ASEAN POST 2015" is the chosen theme for the 12th Meeting ofThe AIPA Fact Finding Committee (AIFOCOM) to Combat The Drug Menace which is held at Le Meridien Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The ceremony began with the welcoming remarks from Mr. P.O Ram, the Secretary General of AIPA and officiated by His Excellency Senator Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang, President of the Senate. Also present were Honorable Senator Datuk Doris Sophia Brodi, Deputy President of the Senate, some of the Members of Parliament and Senators, secretary of both houses and delegations from ASEAN countries such as Brunei, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia,Indonesia, Philipines, Vietnam and Laos. The meeting will last for three consecutive days starting from today until 10 June 2015.
The President of the Senate had a group photo with the Deputy President of the Senate and the Head of Delegations from ASEAN after the opening ceremony.
In the opening remarks, the President of the Senate emphasizes that Malaysia is not a country that produce narcotic substances, on the contrary is very serious in empowering the laws and enforcement in an effort to combat the drug menace. Malaysia is only on a one-way thinking in the implementation of the fight against the drug threat because this issue is a threat to the national security.
The opening ceremony ended at 10am.
