The Committee of Selection is established under Standing Order 70 of the Standing Orders of the Senate. This Committee is appointed at the commencement of each session of Parliament and is responsible for carrying out the duties assigned to it by the Standing Orders, the Parliamentary Service Act 2025, and any other matters referred to it by the Senate from time to time.

The Committee of Selection comprises the President as Chairman, and six Senators elected by the Senate. This Committee shall inform the Senate by issuing a statement whenever a Senator is appointed to a Committee.

The Committee of Selection shall not have the power to summon persons to appear before it or to require the production of documents unless the Senate has decided to confer such authority.
