KUALA LUMPUR: 26 July (Monday) - Seven new members of the Special Committee on Corruption (JKMR) have been appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a period of three years effective from 15 July 2021 to 14 July 2024.

Members of the JKMR consist of members of the Senate and the House of Representatives representing the government and opposition parties, with the President of the Senate, Senator Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim appointed as the chairman.

In a statement, Rais said the appointment of the committee members was a manifestation of the commitment of the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin and the government to eradicate corruption.

"In accordance with the source of legal authority given to it, JKMR is responsible for advising the Prime Minister on any aspect of the corruption problems in Malaysia and examining the annual report of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"This special committee also has the role to examine the comments of the Anti -Corruption Advisory Board as well as seek clarification and explanation on the MACC's annual report," he said in a statement today.

He said, in accordance with section 14 (5), JKMR will be responsible to prepare an annual report on its functions for the Prime Minister who will then presents the report in the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Apart from Rais, other JKMR members including Members of the Senate, Senator Tuan Ir Md Nasir Hashim, Senator Raj Munni Sabu, Senator Idris Ahmad and Senator Zaiedi Suhaili as well as Member of Parliament for Pasir Gudang, Hassan Abdul Karim and Member of Parliament for Bukit Bendera, Wong Hon Wai.

The appointment was on the advice of the Prime Minister in accordance with the provisions of Section 14 of the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694). SOURCE:- BERITA HARIAN.
