FAREWELL & 'CLOCK OUT' CEREMONY OF DATUK NOR YAHATI AWANG AS THE 6th CHIEF ADMINISTRATOR OF PARLIAMENT OF MALAYSIA

Kuala Lumpur, 10 August 2023 -- In a meaningful farewell, faces adorned with smiles and cheer converged to bid farewell to an esteemed leader and the first woman appointed as the Chief Administrator, Datuk Nor Yahati Awang, who dedicated her wholehearted service to Parliament of Malaysia.

The event took place in the lobby of the Member of Parliament and Administration Block at 4:30 pm, also present were Parliament staff, extending their best wishes to her who have served the Parliament from 4 January 2021 to 10 August 2023. Datuk Nor Yahati will embark on a new phase in her career at the Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM) as the Chief Executive Officer. This signifies a successful transition in her career, bringing her experience and dedication to a new platform aimed at advancing integrity and transparency in the nation's administration. With sheer experience in administration and leadership, Datuk Nor Yahati will bring fresh visions and strategies to IIM.

Datuk Nor Yahati has successfully led the administrative department and overcome challenges encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic. During her tenure, she has effectively implemented safety measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the installation of HVAC filters to safeguard the health of Parliament staff. Datuk Nor Yahati also organised ‘Parliament Open Day’ on a medium scale in 2022 and at a grand scale in May 2023 to strengthen relationships between Parliament and the public.

During the farewell ceremony, Datuk Nor Yahati delivered an emotional and profound speech where she shared anecdotes during her career journey and the experiences she gained while holding the position of Chief Administrator of Parliament. She has full empathy for her staff and in her heartfelt address, it was enriched with memories shared alongside with staff who had been an integral part of her illustrious journey.

She also added, "It doesn’t happen to all. It is only for the chosen one" she stated, emphasizing the unique experience with the Parliament. She also recounted her experiences in overseeing administration during the COVID-19 pandemic. "I planned the framework of regulations and new preparations," she revealed. Furthermore, she shared, "I asked all Parliament staff to work on Saturdays and Sundays and to be ready to work at any time, as this is the culture of Parliament.".

She also acknowledged the support she received throughout her tenure, with a particular emphasis on the pivotal role played by Tuan Riduan Rahmat from the Management Division, "I was assisted by a responsible officer, especially Tuan Riduan Rahmat" she added, underscoring the spirit of cooperation that enabled her to overcome challenges and carry out her duties with distinction.

Datuk Nor Yahati concluded her address by reflecting on the integration of the efforts she had outlined within the legislative framework. "One particularly gratifying success was my endeavour to unite all Parliament staff as a cohesive team," she affirmed with conviction. Her words radiated a strong determination to foster unity and effective collaboration among Parliament staff.

She emphasised her aspirations of perpetuating a transparent, high integrity work culture, and to consistently providing the best service to the rakyat and nation. She also stressed that this responsibility does not solely rest upon leaders, but it is a collective duty to ensure the continued excellence of the Malaysian Parliament.

Parliament staff bid a fond farewell and extended their heartfelt wishes to Datuk Nor Yahati Awang, the 6th Chief Administrator of Parliament of Malaysia.

The farewell ceremony serves as a testament to her contributions and leadership, while also nurturing the aspiration for the Parliament to be an independent, authoritative and world-class legislative institution.Top of Form
