Tuesday, 21 May 2013 - A Special Meeting Under Standing Orders 10(3) of the Senate was held at the August House, Parliament of Malaysia and H.E. Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang has been reappointed as President of the Senate for the Second Term. The ceremony was held before Hon. Senator Datuk Doris Sophia Brodi, Deputy President of the Senate.
On 26 April 2010, H.E. Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang was appointed as the 16th President of the Senate, succeeding H.E. Datuk Wong Foon Meng whose term of office ended on 12 April 2010.
Before that, he started his career in 1964 as an Inspector in the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) and the last post that he held was Deputy Superintendent in the Commercial Crime Investigation Department in Bukit Aman in 1979. Between 1980 to June 1986, H.E. Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang continued his career in the legal profession in Kuala Lumpur before being elected as State Assembly Member of Pilah and as an EXCO for Negeri Sembilan's Housing and Local Government. In 1991, he defended the state seat before being elected as Member of Parliament for Kuala Pilah for one term from 1995 to 1999.
