The Right and Freedom Committee is made up of the President/Speaker or Tuan Yang di-Pertua as the chairman and six members elected by the Selection Committee at the earliest time possible after the opening of each term of Parliament.

The Committee considers any matters given to them and issues a statement regarding the matter to the Council.

When the Council is not in session, any member can inform the Tuan Yang di-Pertua of this matter, and if the member does not do so, he is said to have violated the Council’s regulations on rights and freedom.

If the Tuan Yang di-Pertua is not satisfied, the matter can be handed to this Committee. This Committee can then issue a statement to the Council regarding the matter.

This Committee has the power to summon anyone to be present in front of it, to request for the issuing of letters, and issue statements to the Council from time to time.
